Level: Essential CLE Units: 1
Speakers:
Nicholas Cowdery AM QC
NSW Director of Public Prosecutions
Aims
Some Australian legislatures have borrowed from modern anti-terrorism provisions to create new mechanisms for dealing with criminal organisations (the misnamed “bikie” legislation).
Not only may the justification for and effectiveness of such action be questioned, we need to consider the toll it may take on the just Rule of Law and human rights. Sandro Totani in South Australia and the Hells Angels in NSW are finding out.
Chair:
Brenda Tronson
Barrister, Sixth Floor, Selborne Wentworth Chambers
